A boy starting at 14 years old got a summer job that winded up being a career that lead him to have a dream that is today a reality. Thanks to his first employer for pushing him in this field, some great friends in his path, and most especially, tremendous customer support and loyalty over the years, this is becoming nothing short of a true American dream for Rodney Humphries, owner of Rodney’s Marine Center, LLC.
His talents allowed him to quit a job one day and open a business the next. By reputation alone, his business immediately took off and within the first summer season in 2013, he outgrew our initial location. Boats kept coming and customers waited in line for Rodney’s service.
By year two, he added a small new boat line and began selling new and used boats. Customers asked if they could store their boats ….have other boat line options…..repower their old boats, what choice was there but to expand? By year three, we moved operations to 4 acres next door with water access and did all of the above.
Now, 6 years in, Rodney’s Marine Center, LLC is full service marine stop offering service, sales, and storage with valet services. RMC is Logan Martin’s exclusive dealer for Silver Wave Pontoon Boats, Suzuki Power, Blue Wave and Carolina Skiff-Sea Chaser Center Console boats. We are on the path to continue our growth to offer anything marine wise that services our customers best.
Hard work, continuous reinvestment, and a solid reputation with our customers has put RMC on the map. We are blessed with a small but amazing staff, Cody Brown is our lead mechanic, and has been with us the longest. Rodney’s son, Tyler Humphries, is learning the ropes, started out as our tractor driver while learning other aspects of the business such as customer service & repair services. Barney Clarey joined us in 2019 after leaving the movie industry (and buying a boat from us) helping us in the shop. Ken Davis, another customer, helps us part time with customer service, sales, repair and coordinating our boat shows. Jeff Morris joined us also in 2019 and helps with customer service and sales. Speaking of boat shows, our customers and great friends are the one’s you see on the front lines….they own our product and who best to represent us? There is no way we would be here today without our great customer support and a lot of special friends that want to see Rodney succeed.
You probably wonder who wrote this, well it’s Kimberly, Rodney’s wife and #1 fan and the one you may see helping out during the busy season. Many know “our” story. What people said before I met him and what I still hear today is true. He is just a simple, good, all around great guy, believes in hard work and making an honest living so we are always going to do our best to care for our customers and give them the best value possible. So this is who we are and want to be, and the future holds great opportunity for RMC, we want to be great in how we service you!
